Tree

Guards looked over the parapet and gaped at a sight in front of the gates. “That hasn’t always been there…has it?” whispered one guard to another, the other shook his head and motioned all to continue their duties. Surely a one tree could do no harm to their city, but it would to no harm either to report it?

A large tree stood right outside the city gates, a few hundred meters away from the white walls, branches outspread in the sunlight. Hoom, I can remember the days when Men used to know more about Ents. That was when the Entwives were still…here. His eyes scanned the mithril gates and then the stone walls. Surely the city is great now, for it’s time. But it had been grander before.

Treebeard shook himself slightly, to rid himself of some lingering stiffness. Best for him to stay still for now, lest he worry the little guards. Perhaps he should think of some way to find someone he knew. But he had to think it over carefully, no telling what a hasty action could cause.

Burns...

It wasn't until later that night during their escape that Treebeard began feeling the throbbing pain of his burns. They weren't that bad, just as longs as none of his limbs had been...missing. But his bark-like skin was now black and charred in places. Hmm, this will be showing for years before it fully heals. thought Treebeard idly.

The elves around him had stopped for a rest in some place, rather far from the now overrun Imladris. All were looking tired, distraught, and hurt. The attack had taken something from all of them. He could still remember the screaming of his beloved trees as each of them ignited like torches under the fire of the flaming arrows.

But his injuries would be fine, nothing really serious. The rest of them needed their rest and didn't need other worries to deal with.

Thoughts

One of the Two Trees' branches in Rivendell...amazing. Treebeard tramped around Rivendell yet again. The rain had stopped leaving everything covered in drops of liquid, tinged silver in the moonlight.

I do wonder what is the message the Valar are trying to send the Firstborn, the Elves? thought Treebeard looking up at the full moon in the clear night sky. The stars seemed to wink down at him in reply and a cool breeze picked up around him.

"Oh be that way. I shall think on my own then. Asking you is only being hasty, and that's what Men do. We Ents shall think it over for now...yes for now." murmured Treebeard in a low voice. To any other person that was walking through the small wood, it sounded like the groaning of a large, and old tree. Slowly he continued tramping, until he found a place to his liking, where he stood and slept.

Watched as the elves scurried around, making these preparations and that. Ever since Lord Elrond arrived home they had all been very busy. He smiled. He would have to meet this elven lord himself some time. "How many days have I stayed here? Hroom I shall have to be going to the Shire soon. The cold bite of Winter shall be coming soon, and my time is running out." he murmured to himself.

He smiled and turned around. Oh well, maybe he could go find someone to speak to.

Hoom hroom...

Rivendell. Wonderful place. Peaceful. Treebeard smiles as he walks among the trees around him. He had met another elf today by the name of Erestor. A friend of Glorfindel. So many elves hroom but it would be easy enough to keep track of them.

They didn't seem as hasty as Men and Hobbits were. He sighed to himself and started humming a tune under his breath. He wasn't surprised when he realized it was the song of the Entwives. Must be missing them. he thought to himself. A small flower fell from the high branches of an apple tree and alighted on his head unnoticed as another one fell onto his nose.

Treebeard stared at the delicate flower for a moment, and then carefully picked it up and set it on his beard.

Imladris

Treebeard gives an earthly groan as he stretches in the morning sun that streamed into the valley of Imladris. He had the most pleasant time talking with the Elf Glorfindel the other day, most wonderful. And found that the Elf's words were true...Treebeard found himself being gawked and stared at whenever someone thought he wasn't looking.

It hadn't been that way with Master Peregrine and Meriadoc...had it thought Treebeard idly.

"Some ent-draught should do some good. I'll stay for a while. I should like to meet this Lord Elrond myself." he gave a throaty laugh, "There are many more people in this world that I should meet. Hopefully I shall last long enough to do that."

And with that he ambled onwards in the forests around Imladris

Approved

Treebeard sighed contently as he strode back to his home. The ent moot had gone successfully. He was given <strike>permission</strike> no...approval to his looking for the entwives. There had been no real hope in the eyes of the others.

Well, it was now the time to set off, the journey will be long. Going all the way up north to wherever the Shire of the little ones may be.

"Hoom, north I go through rain and snow." he hummed quietly.

And with that he started to make his way, taking this leisure long, wide strides Northwards, out of Fanghorn forest.

Something Missing...

The early summer air rustled the leaves on his arms and Treebeard inhaled deeply at the scent of growing things around him. The sap green grass, the tiny little flowers, and large and majestic trees of Fanghorn Forest. Slowly he strode out into the clearing of his home, the evergreen trees who's branches intertwined around each other parted before him as he strode out.

It was good to be among his trees again, to be in the place that he had dwelt in for many centuries in this world. Isenguard was being rebuilt and trees were moving back in. The trenches and mines that once scarred the ground and belched smoke into the air had been filled in, never to be open again; and now overgrown in vegetation making the grounds fresh and green. No more would Saruman and his bararum terrorize and harm his precious trees. Treebeard smiled and gave a satisfied 'Hroom' as he stood in the warm midday sunlight. Everything was back as it had been...But why did he feel that something was missing?

Treebeard pondered upon this matter as he strode through the forest, greeting each tree as he passed, as he had always done since he was first awakened. By the time he came back to his home, the answer still had not come to him. With a creaking shake of his head, Treebeard filled a large bowl with Ent-draught and drank deeply. As time passed and he pondered the answer to his question whilst lying on his bed, a conversation he had with the little ones, the hobbits came back to him, about the Entwives.

His eyes lit up with green fire and he got up quickly. The Entwives. The words brought back so many old memories and images. To find them once again and bring them back...Entwives, that was what was missing. But they were gone, lost in this world of Men, Elves, Dwarves...and Hobbits. Didn't the little ones describe their land as one of rolling hills, beautiful vegetation, little rivers? Such a place would be where an Entwife could be. The Ents have never travelled that far North, so there was a possibility...

Firmly he shook his head. No, first he had to think this over, maybe call another Ent moot. After all, he couldn't be hasty.
